SEDALIA, Mo. — Authorities are investigating a shooting that left both a suspect and a police officer injured following a pursuit in Sedalia on Wednesday morning.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the incident began shortly before 10 a.m. when officers with the Sedalia Police Department responded to a reported domestic disturbance in the 1000 block of South Garfield Avenue. Upon arriving at the scene, officers encountered a man who allegedly entered a pickup truck and attempted to leave the area.

Investigators say a brief pursuit followed as officers attempted to stop the vehicle. During the chase, the suspect reportedly reversed his truck and struck a police vehicle. Authorities stated that an officer then discharged a firearm, striking the suspect. The pursuit continued for a short distance before the vehicle came to a stop near East 16th Street and South Arlington Avenue.

Emergency responders arrived at the scene and transported both the suspect and the involved officer to a nearby hospital. Officials reported that the injuries sustained by both individuals were non-life-threatening.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol’s Division of Drug and Crime Control has taken over the investigation into the officer-involved shooting, while the Sedalia Police Department continues to investigate the original domestic disturbance call. Authorities have not released additional details regarding the identities of those involved.

Police have asked anyone with information about the incident to contact investigators as they work to determine the full sequence of events leading up to the shooting.
